"That's here. That's Home. That's Us" - Carl Sagan

The Pale Blue Dot

The Pale Blue Dot is Earth viewed from afar in outer space. This is our home.
We have no near neighbours. We are on our own.

It used to be a cool place to live.

Some 300 years of idiotic decision-making have substantially damaged it, with polluted air, fresh waters, and oceans, over 50% of soils heavily degraded, rampant deforestation and forest fires, damaged ecosystems, mass extinction of species and all. Now Earth is overheating dangerously. By about 2040 and at current rates, large areas where presently billions live are bound to become uninhabitable and leave the whole Planet outside of any safe and just Earth-System boundaries.

The same idiotic decision-making means that approximately only the wealthiest 10% partly benefit from the damage while the 90% remainder no longer have any realistic prospect to ever live a good life. Research demonstrates that beyond 2030 the whole of humankind and much non-human life is endangered.

Impotent Decision Making

Over the last 40 years, decision-makers in government and business have proved impotent to change course, even partly. They have failed to acquire and make use of available knowledge to address the problems and challenges that  they relentlessly created for themselves and for the whole of Life on Earth – amazing, unprecedented cognitive failure.

Our research is increasingly corroborated by that of a fast-increasing number of other scientists and engineers: none of the present policies, plans, investments, such as to “decarbonise with renewables” can succeed with the present technology mix, economics, modes of thinking and decision-making, absolutely none.

"There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world," - Carl Sagan

Like it or not, understand it or not, the about 300 years decision-making “show” in full contradiction with the thermodynamics of complex systems is over. It is now: evolve new sustainable ways in a hell of a hurry, or die.

There is a way out of trouble

The Cool Planet Foundation and its associate organisations in the Fourth Transition Initiative (FTI) have mustered the knowledge, the expertise, the experience and the proven means to build Something-else, enabling all to live in 100% sustainable, affordable and prosperous ways, 100% solar based, fix the damage inflicted on our home, Earth, and bring back CO2 below a safe 350ppm in record time – the bulk of it over some two decades, in accelerated, viral fashion globally. In short, to return within safe and just Earth-System Boundaries.

It took us over 55 years to figure out how to do this using only well proven means; yet, in hindsight it’s not that hard to save our home and ourselves once one is free from the modes of thinking and decision-making that have led us to the brink. We are now ready to share this with all the discontented who want Something-else and together build a community of pioneers to radically change the game globally.

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult” - Seneca

Before it is too late, it is now time to dare and regain control over our lives and destinies. We have the means to do it on our own; nothing and no one can stop us.

This is what the Cool Planet Foundation and its Fourth Transition Initiative are about. No time for doom and gloom. It is an exciting time.

Our website and the other sites in the FTI web-ring will show you the how, the why, the what, from the ultra-simple core matters that all can understand to the technical details aimed more to fellow engineers and scientists.

All are invited. Come, join us.
Together let’s renew and revitalise our pale blue dot.
